If you are redecorating and refurbishing your bedroom, you are probably in the market for a new bed as well. With so many selections and varieties available, it can be difficult to know which one suits your best. In order to get an idea of what is out there, here are some of the more popular styles of beds.
• Brass Bed: These give an antique and classic look to your bedroom. Most are made with a nickel coating, and some even have silver or gold finishes and accents. If your bedroom is done is a classic or traditional theme, a brass bed will fit in nicely.
• Captain’s Bed: This is a bed with no box spring; instead it has only one mattress, with drawers underneath for storage. It does not sit up off the ground like most beds do. This is a very popular choice for kids, but it comes in queen and king sizes as well. If you need extra storage space a captain’s bed will suit your needs perfectly.
• 4-Poster Bed: This is another perfect bed if you have a traditional or classic decor in your room. A 4-poster bed will add style and elegance. They come in different wood types, such as oak, cherry or pine.
• Canopy Bed: You will feel like royalty when you slip under the covers in your canopy bed. This is very popular with young girls, but they come in sophisticated and elegant adult sizes as well.
• Bunk Beds: Of course this is a good choice for kids who share a room and are short on space. There are also bunk bed/desk combos that add functionality to any room.
When choosing a bed, don’t forget about the headboards. There are many different styles and materials. If you are an avid reader, you may want a shelf style that allows you to store books. Do some research online to get an idea of what style you are interested in and prices of each.
Just as important when choosing a bed is choosing your mattress sets. Do you prefer a harder mattress, or a softer one? What size do you prefer? Usually, you will get your box spring and mattress as a set. Go to your local mattress store or department store and try some out – actually lay down on them to get a feel for how they support you.
Think about getting a mattress pad as well when you purchase your mattress set. They add an extra layer of comfort and padding that will have you resting comfortably each and every night. There are various styles and thicknesses out there; some are waterproof, some are heated and some have memory foam. Look online for mattress pads reviews and ask the sales staff at your local specialty store for their recommendation.
Redecorating a bedroom can be a stressful experience; but buying a new bed doesn’t have to be. Once you have an idea of the style you are looking for, it’s simply a matter of going out to buy it. You’ll sleep well knowing you made the right choice for your comfort, style and tastes.
